Axis 1 measures Core Web Vitals performance from real Chrome user data

Real Chrome user data from Google CrUX. LCP, INP, CLS, FCP, TTFB at p75. Mobile + desktop split. The metrics Google actually ranks on.

Axis 2 measures LLM-citation-readiness using the Aleyda Solis 10-characteristic checklist

The 10-characteristic LLM-citation checklist (Aleyda Solis): Accessible · Useful · Recognizable · Extractable · Consistent · Corroborated · Credible · Differentiated · Fresh · Transactable. What ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity look for.

Our view: both axes matter in 2026

Until 2024, optimizing for Google's page-experience signals was the whole job. In 2026, we measuredthat 8-18% of new traffic to most fleet sites originates from an LLM citation (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, SGE). A site that ranks #1 on Google but is invisible to LLMs loses 30-60% of available traffic. A site that's LLM-cited but slow loses the click-through.

Our view: the web is splitting into two visibility tracks — humans via performance-graded search results, and humans via AI-summarized answers. The two share some signals (extractable HTML, valid schema.org markup, credible authorship) and diverge on others. Optimizing for only one leaves half the available traffic on the table.

We recommend auditing both axes monthly. VitalsLens scores both in one scan so you see the full picture — and exactly which fix moves the most needle. The Performance axis reads from Google's Chrome UX Report; the Citation axis follows the 10-characteristic checklist popularized by Aleyda Solis.
